Hungary and the United Arab Emirates have signed an agreement on military and defense industry cooperation, the Ministry of Defense said in a release on its website this week.

The deal clears the way for the "official start" of talks on military cooperation with the UAE, Minister of Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said after a meeting with Minister of State for Defense Affairs Mohamed Fadhel Al Mazrouei in the UAE.

Learning about each other's defense capabilities and identifying joint areas for research, development and innovation is an "important opportunity," he added.

He said stronger ties with one of the most significant economic and military powers of the Arab Gulf states could complement Hungary's defense development program in R&D or the production of military equipment.
