The net inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Bulgaria went up to roughly EUR 1.5 billion in the nine months through September from EUR 1.2 billion in the comparable period of 2022, the country's central bank said on Friday.

The net FDI inflow between January and September, calculated according to the directional principle, was equal to 1.5% of Bulgaria's 2022 forecast gross domestic product (GDP), the Bulgarian National Bank said in a statement, citing preliminary data.

In a separate report, the central bank said that Bulgaria posted a current account surplus of EUR 770 million, equal to 1% of economic output in the first nine months, compared to a surplus of 0.7% in the same period a year ago.

In September alone, the current account posted a deficit of EUR 458 million compared to a deficit of EUR 31.5 million a year ago, the bank said on Friday.
