Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's salary increased in July from HUF 3.555 million gross to HUF 4.178 mln, according to data requested by 24.hu.

The response of the Prime Minister's Office to 24.hu's request for data also revealed that, despite the high inflation, the salaries of ministers, state secretaries, and even government commissioners and prime minister's deputies will not increase this year. The PM's Office did not explain why the prime minister left wages unchanged despite high inflation.

Orbán's allowance increase was mandated by legislation after the government majority voted last year to link the prime minister's allowance (which was HUF 1.5 million) to the speaker's honorarium, which automatically increases according to the increase in gross average earnings, which last year was 18.5%, according to the Central Statistical Office.
