Poland's annual inflation rate edged up to 2.4% in April from a five-year low of 2% in the previous month and matching market forecasts, preliminary estimates released by the Warsaw-based Central Statistical Office (GUS) on Tuesday show.

The upward pressure mainly came from higher prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.9%).

Meanwhile, prices fell for electricity, gas, & other fuels (-2.3%) and fuels for personal transport equipment (-1.2%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1% in April, following a 0.2% gain in the previous month.
