Slovakia Retail Sales Growth Eases in March

Retail sales in Slovakia rose by 0.5% year-on-year in March, marking the third consecutive month of growth, although easing from a 5.3% gain in the previous month, data from the Bratislava-based Slovak Statistical Office (SÚSR) showed on Tuesday.

Sales increase at a slower pace for non-specialized stores (3.4% vs 4.4% in February), other household equipment (3.8% vs 12.1%), other goods (0.8% vs 5.4%), via stalls & market (0.4% vs 3.6%), and not in stores, stalls or markets (15.7% vs 26.6%).

Conversely, sales grew faster for food, beverages & tobacco (8.8% vs 7.7%).

Meanwhile, there were sharp declines in sales for automotive fuel (-20.8% vs -8.7%), ICT (-36.1% vs -10.6%), and cultural and recreation goods (-7.6% vs -7.1%). On a monthly comparison basis, retail sales dropped by 0.6%, after rising by 0.9% in the prior period.
