Guest Nights at Lake Balaton Nearing Pre-COVID Levels

Guest nights at tourism accommodations around Lake Balaton in the first half of the summer were close to 99% of levels in the same period in 2019, the year before the pandemic, and turnover in July is up more than 3%, the Hungarian Tourism Agency said.

Around 2.4 million guest nights were registered at tourism accommodations around Lake Balaton between June 1 and mid-July, and bookings have been made for a further 1.3 million for the rest of the summer, the agency said.

Approximately 73% of tourists to the region are Hungarian, although the number of guest nights spent by foreign visitors has risen by 14%.

Revenue of tourism accommodation in the area has climbed around 8%, close to HUF 22 bln. Szép voucher card spending accounts for about 11% of that.
